Negative thoughts and emotions do come in naturally and randomly, and people punish themselves infinitely more than once. This is why negative thoughts and emotions need to be deliberately replaced.
It might take more than 21 days. A month, maybe?
Meanwhile, send yourself into cold turkey. But it is going to be worth it, once you can map out your own emotional burdens and force yourself out of all that emotional/ intellectual comfort zone.
