“According to a tradition believed to have been derived from the Romans, the wedding ring is worn on the left hand ring finger because there was thought to be a vein in the finger, referred to as the ‘Vena Amoris’ or the ‘Vein of Love’ said to be directly connected to the heart.”
So sweet, right?
The wedding ring symbolises a promise, and a commitment, made on the foundation of shared beautiful memories between a man and his wife.
This means that whenever there is a temptation to cheat on the better half, the ring on the left hand ring finger would remind the husband/wife of this commitment.
I remembered having this conversation with my Finnish partner-in-crime. Let’s call him X. He was telling me about this flirty couple he met on a cruise, who were not married to each other. If I didn’t remember wrongly, the story went as follows:
The woman and the man were flirting, and friend X was nearby. Then the man showed the woman the ring on his finger.
Friend X , being cheeky, then said, “It’s just a ring, isn’t it”.
